Raw Carob Can be expensive. Plus its seasonal. As when its stored, it dries out, so its not as good.. Plus raw, whole carob will go “bad”, so it can be bad for business, since it will expire and companies will lose their profits.. I will continue to look for solutions on helping to get fresh, raw carob out to people… Maybe grow your own tree!

@JackNeedles : I hear you 10% BUT … Do some real experimenting. Once you are 100% Raw (not with dehydrated treats or a jar of almond butter, but with TRUE fresh, whole, ripe raw fruits and green leafy vegies, THEN you will see, if you are doing a QUANTIFIABLE fitness program what happens to your performance. I have been training people for 25 years, and for the last ten with a raw diet, and all those (without exception) who are truly raw and truly in tune with their bodies notice big dif….

I have been looking for carob in any form at the local health food stores and it has become a very, very rare commodity on the shelves. Sunspire makes a very delicious version of chips for baking, when you can find them.
I have to stay away from cacao and other stimulants like caffeine to prevent my blood pressure from spiking. Theobromine raises my blood pressure – so it does cause problems – even in the context of chocolate foods.

Where else do you buy raw carob? I’m on the East coast and not paying $30 for a few pieces like some sites and stuff on the rfw. Thanks

Yes, in it’s isolated form, where it becomes a drug. This is basic biochemistry. Did you also know that vitamin A can be toxic without Vitamin D? Does that mean we shouldn’t take Vitamin A? No. It goes back to whole foods. Theobromine, in it’s original state of original biochemical sequence is not toxic because other natual chemical compounds are present that cancel out any negative qualities including toxicity. The isolated form is void of these other chemical compounds which makes it toxic.

As seen in the dictionary – the?o?bro?mine [thee-uh-broh-meen, -min]
noun Pharmacology. a white, crystalline, water-insoluble, poisonous powder, C7H8N4O2, an isomer of theophylline and lower homologue of caffeine, occurring in tea and obtained from the cacao bean: used chiefly as a diuretic, myocardial stimulant, and vasodilator.

I love these unfounded claims about cacao from people who don’t understand biochemistry. John, I like your videos, but please, give me one reason why cacao shouldn’t be consumed.

Cacao is very high in soluble fiber. It is not acidic either. What acidic minerals does it contain? Not many, they’re all alkalizing (magnesium, iron, zinc and potassium).

Carobs great too, but I don’t see any reason why cacao needs to be vilified to try and raise carob up on a pedestal.

There is not a single confirmed case of human theobromine poisoning from chocolate EVER. Sure it doesn’t agree with some people, but raw garlic doesn’t agree with everyone either.

Thank you for the info, just what I was looking for. I just bought cacoa yesterday, should have watched this sooner.

In this day and age of cacao obsession, it’s nice to see someone discuss carob, definitely a raw food powerhouse of nutrition and one of my culinary favorites…

Hi John ~ I’m unable to go to the website you mention at the end, Is there another address or site to buy this? Thanks so much!

Thank you for showing these different products. I am just using up the last of my cacao and replaced it with raw carob for all my chocolate needs.
