Q&A: How does sweetened cocoa (no sugar) instead of unsweetened cocoa with sugar change a cookie recipe?

Question by jess: How does sweetened cocoa (no sugar) instead of unsweetened cocoa with sugar change a cookie recipe?
The recipe calls for 3/4 cup white sugar and 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, but I only have sweetened cocoa. If I add 1/3 cup sweetened cocoa, will it be too watery? But if I add 13/12 cup sweetened cocoa, will it be too sweet? What should I do?

Use less sugar if you use sweetened cocoa or drinking chocolate. That is, instead of three quarters of a cup, use a bit more than half.

Hope this helps.

I would not recommend using sweetened cocoa powder (such as Nesquik). The unsweetened cocoa powder is much more concentrated in strength (you can tell by it’s dark color) and resulting in very rich chocolate flavor for your cookies.

Hello Jess,
I would not substitute sweetened cocoa for the unsweetened. The sugar in the recipe is formulated to make the perfect sweetness for your unsweetened cocoa.

Sweetened cocoa is for making chocolate milk and things like that.

I hope that helps!
