Is the correct spelling cacao tree or cocoa tree?

Question by Gwen: Is the correct spelling cacao tree or cocoa tree?
I am writing a story about how to make chocolate. Some one edited my spelling of "cacao tree" and said that the correct way to spell it is "cocoa tree." I have heard both ways, but which is correct?

The correct biological name is cacao tree. However Wikipedia also gives “Cocoa tree” as an alternate name. I believe that cacao is more correct –

Cocoa is the name for the product that is taken from the tree, after being processed. The cacao tree yields cacao beans (also called cocoa beans), which are used to make cocoa and chocolate.
