Johnny Depp You know the thing is that I just don’t know if his face should’ve been white? I think the director was trying to make people feel like he was an albino. I have to admit though even though, no matter how much people crush the newer version, the newer movie hit the aesthetics of the factory very well. It’s difficult to say which factory is better. But the chocolate around Augustas Gloop was horribly done along with other things.

I agree, both great actors in their own right. As creepy as Johnny Depp was, he just seemed to miss the mark on Willy. Also, not doing it as a musical was a huge mistake. As we saw with Sweeney Todd, Depp would have done a fantastic job at these tunes. A shame.
Listening to other versions of this tune on youtube gives you an idea of how nearly impossible it is to follow up this performance. Just amazing.

@dannysubaruman Depp captured the darkness of Wonka better but over did it to the point of a weirdo , they changed the black pigmies into ompaloompas too! , Mix both movies u can see the novel!

My favourite Willy Wonka song! Perfect as is. Gene Wilder is Fantastic. Johnny Depp is dirt compared to Gene Wilder (well, I can’t truly say that since I’ve never read the book).

Maybe Burton got jealous? I can’t imagine why else he would try to out-do this masterpiece.
And for those of you who will note that it’s a kid’s film and Burton’s was at least dark, this one is as well it just has more subtlety and the darkness comes from the actors and not the effects.
