Darryl Dawkins’ Top 10 Plays

for cover and amazing a nation of fans. Three weeks later he did it again. A few days after that the NBA ruled that breaking a backboard was an offense that would result in a fine and suspension. Dawkins named the backboard-breaking dunk "Chocolate Thunder Flying, Robinzine Crying, Teeth Shaking, Glass Breaking, Rump Roasting, Bun Toasting, Wham, Bam, Glass Breaker I Am Jam." He named other dunks as well: the Rim Wrecker, the Go-Rilla, the Look Out Below, the In-Your-Face Disgrace, the ...

holy shit was that his knee in his chest omg

and I think more often the not, they let guys “bang” …
and I think Both Jones you mention were very good “role” players, they were not by any stretch incredible players, but they complimented Doc very well. Thats why the first year we got Mo, we won it all. We needed a bonafide big ban. I love DD, he has a special place in my heart, because he was apart of the starting Sixer team when I first got into hoops. Last game as a sixer: game 6 LA-10 points, 1 board, 20 minutes-fouled out.

I agree with almost everything you think..the only caveat to that is, we both know that the “great” players throught time og the NBA benefitted from the “no call” when it comes to fouls Obviously, DD was not one of the greats and he was called more often than not. And I am not sure I totally agree with your assement officiating back in the “day”. There were alot of physical teams back in the late 70′ early 80′s-even mid 80′s-mostly in the Eastern Conference of course..

plus DD played on a contender and great team from the get go. Cheeks, early W.B.Free, Caldwell Jones, Collins, Erving, Toney, Bobby Jones…
If you look at those sixer teams, they got contribution from lot’s of players, only erving would produce league leading stats, and even dr.j stats didn’t reflect his greatness.

dawkins had a more than adequate jump shot from 18- 20 ft in. The problem DD had was that the officiating at that time was much more conservative, in terms of physical play. If DD were to have started his career , say 10 years later, he would have been a dominant center in the NBA. But he was always in foul trouble, mostly for fouls that today wouldn’t be called.

wow number 5

Not as tall but for power and size the late Dawkins could match Shaq no doubt

the man was a beast when it came to dunks!!!!!!!!

I agree with you one point, I think if he had come out of HS now-with the physical skills he had-it would have been more “accepted”-having said that-the NBA has never had a problem “whoring” talent-if his skills had gotten better over time and he begun to dominate, they would have “rode” his start like they did Doc’s, Magics, Jabbars, etc. Someone who never got the real credit his career deserves for being so dominant, because he was in Houston much of his early NBA-was Moses-

OK, I get that you got Love-tron for DD-but I think you have alittle more than little conspiracy “nut” in you-lol. dont know if you are Sixers fan or just a DD fan (I am a Sixers and I go back to 80-81 with them) but you have to look at the numbers he posted. Many times, the numbers lie and dont give you the whole story. Check out his #’s from say 77 to 82, from about the time he was starting. Compared to the league and other big men of his time, not even close to a special player & I like him

no 1 owned

DD had a nice midrange jumpshot, His Defense was suspect but i think that was because the league did not want HS’er to succeed. A bit different today huh? Rebounds were not plentiful but playing with Big Mac, DR. Bobby J, Steve Mix, and Caldwell Jones that did not leave a lot of loose balls to pick up. If A player like DD came in today out of HS with his talent they would call him “KING” and made sure he succeeded even if they had to give him extra steps to do it. ooops did i step on toes?

this is somewhat true…but…
DD had no shot what so ever…
I am Sixer fan…so I love DD (loved Moses more..lol) but he had no shot…and his D was suspect…very suspect…
for a man his size and with his strength..he was very rarely in top 10 in boards..blocks etc..they make a big deal over his FG %-but comeon-when you avge 12 a game…is that really that special. Fun player-not as talented as his dunks

From the planet Lovetron…….!!!! LMAO….Fuckin’ ’70s I remember when Dawkins said, how he found out he got traded. He was sitting on his couch drinkin’ a beer watching TV and the news reporter said, “…..and now in sports news today, Darryl Dawkins was traded to the New Jersey Nets.” LMAO..!!!

the backboard shattered on impact…and not after him hanging or pulling on the rim….that is sheer force!

#7 and #1 are fuckin sick!!!

julius erving is the best dunker ever!!!

Even less well known is that, a few years later, Robinzine committed suicide.

no1 is fucking best

the pride of Lovetron University.

3 and 4 is the best

i’ve never really searched up on him before but when i saw his plays for the first time i jumped out of my seat
