Can you substitute chopped chocolate chunks for chocolate chips?

I couldn't find in my local supermarket. And i needa make chocolate chip cookies for tmrw. Can i substitute them with chocolate chunks i cut from a bar of chocolate?

Will it taste the same? Look the same?
If it will become too sweet, (cuz i bought it already) can i subtract the amount of sugar i add into the cookie dough?

it definitely won’t look as pretty, but it will taste the same. make sure you cut it into a good small size, or else it will melt all over the cookie and look all gooey and gross

I find it hard to believe that you can’t find chocolate chips at the grocery store – did you check the baking section?

You shouldn’t use milk chocolate in chocolate chip cookies because the chips will melt all over. If you have dark or semi-sweet chocolate, you can use that.

You can substitute chocolate from a bar of chocolate. It would be best if you bought Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate bar and cut it into tiny pieces. Semi sweet chocolate works best. Otherwise your cookies might be to sweet.

Yes, break the chunks up as much as possible. I think you may even enjoy them more!
enjoy!

Yes you can, and in fact I prefer to make my chocolate chip cookies this way! I usually break the choclate into pieces and then put them into a plastic bag and bang them with a rolling pin a bit to break them up a bit further. I like some chunky bits and some smaller bits. As usual, I just stir them into the cookie mixture at the end.

I wouldn’t subtract any sugar but as this will change the way the cookie dough mixes and bakes.

Maybe but it wont look as good

i usually use a chocolate bar and it tastes pretty good, it is a little sweet but i wouldn’t change the amount of sugar in the recipe. *be sure make the chocolate chunks small enough*

Since the chocolate should melt completely (if it doesn’t, the dough didn’t get hot enough to bake thoroughly), whether the chocolate came in little drops or little chunks won’t make much difference. You can even use M&Ms, pieces of candy bar that have more than chocolate. (My favorite “chocolate chip” cookies are Zag Nut cookies, although a Clark Bar is good too.) And if you use really tiny pieces of Baker’s chocolate (the unsweetened bars), the contrast between the sweet cookie and the bitter/sour chocolate is really different.
