Cadbury Chocolate 20% Downsize

Video related to the clever 50g downsizing of a chocolate bar, 250g which looks identical to 200g, very sneaky but not very clever. Update 1, it seems Cadbury's have realized that changing the classic taste was an epic fail, word is they will revet back to the old taste this is said to be months away, will the 50g come back? Update 2, (April 2010) looks like a bit of damage control going on, Cadbury's have changed the look of this block now, it is a much darker colour. The cocoa amount has been changed back to the classic taste, unfortunately the size still remains downsized to 200g We will need a really good TV commercial made to inform the loyal chocolate lovers that the classic taste is back, I dare say the damage done by this change will take years to repair, many consumers are now enjoying another brand. BIG lessons here for all in business, never stuff around with a classic product. Cadbury changed its famous recipe at the same time as it introduced new packaging and a reduction in the size of its chocolate blocks. Cadbury recently reduced the size of its moulded chocolate range. The 150g block has been re-sized to 100g/110g, the 250g block has been downsized to 200g/220g and the 400g block is now 350g. 250g had 26% cocoa solids, 200g has 21% cocoa solids. Very tricky repackaging ensures the consumer barely notices any change, while a new slick advertising campaign sets up a smoke screen to distract the consumer. Company websites declaring this change is for the ...

i didnt notice they reduced it all this time!
40 cadbury workers must have seen this
They’ve done the same thing to ice cream. No more half-gallons and not, with a few exceptions, no more pints either. The biggest slap in the face came from Clover in Petaluma, CA where they not only reduced the half-gallon down to 1.5 qts, they raised the price (and changed the packaging) nearly $1.50. So, coupled with the downsizing (less ice cream, same cost) with the price increase, (the former half-gallon sold on average for $4.55) they effectively raised the price over $2. Criminal.
this is happening everywhere ! its all about money !
I only buy this stuff when its on special anyway. I just purchased 16 blocks at $2 each, best before still a year away so should last me a good while. I’m a bargain hunter I guess..
lol @ your responses from people on the street, they are obviously scripted or been told what to say…. lol
Thanks for all the video’s Leo. It’s great to have actual proof of the way we are being ripped off.
cheers kuffuffle
lol fail acting
@urvisionist – Your’e correct. These buyers are also affecting the price of coffee and chocolate here in the US. And yet blame it on the world markets while Wall Street and other financial markets profit. This is an outrage, it’s is even affecting the Hershey Corporation here in the US. They are starting to sell smaller portions of their chocolates. Cadbury is sky high there. I thought I was looking at US prices for a minute. Man! Everybody’s getting screwed!
hey leo, i came home from new zealand and i went to cadbury world.
@MegaLordKratos They aren’t complaining about a decrease in overall portion size. They are talking about how Cadbury decreased the portion size while still charging the same price, and attempting to fool customers into thinking its the same portion using somewhat deceptive packaging.
The sad thing is the public have always been ripped off by these manufacturers, and the power over children is amazing, however they are not clever totally because eventually the public cotton on, well done and well spotted, maybe one day justice will prevail?.
Price of chocolate is going up world wide thanks to a group of buyers hording coca beans as soon as they are harvested and marketed. This hording will create an influx of prices on the world market share resulting in increased prices to the consumer. Therefore to keep the prices in check at retail, the chocolate companies must repackage and downsize their bars, resulting in smaller and or cheaper quality chocolate on the store shelves.
Thanks for this video. I no longer buy Cadbury chocolates because of the size downsizing. They used to also sell the 450-500g blocks for around $5 but it’s gone down to like 400g now I think. I can’t remember the packaging weight now because I have boycotted this brand & their products. WTF is up with Woolies petrol charging $3!!! for a chocolate bar!
And to complain about a 20% decrease is absurd to say the least…because 1. It will result in less sweets eaten and better health on one hand., and 2. If you really want more chocolate buy a bigger size or another smaller one of the same thing to make up the difference…because as others have said: They could have kept the same size and raised prices and people would probably still be complaining, or done both, but they went the reduction route…either choose a diff. product or not already.
It’s funny how you say Cadbury(Kraft) has done something sneaky or is scamming people, when they haven’t done anything of the sort…by law in the states and elsewhere, all they have to do is post the new weight on the packaging and they seem to have done just that.
As prices for shipping/stocking/etc go up, the price of the product will go up, or the size will shrink…you can have one or both but never neither sadly to say, same with property taxes or cut budgets when regional debt increases.
is the new one with the small quares
greedy bast*ards… whats new….. dont buy it….
I noticed almost straight away when it was downsized! I noticed that it had changed to cardboard packaging and I don’t know it looked weird and I didn’t trust it so I studied it suspiciously, only to realise that it was 50g less! But still cost the same! I was not, and am still not happy about it :/
But what upsets me more is all this palm oil stuff that I never heard about! Are they still using it? :(
Food is food get over it.
Just be thankful they are even selling chocolate.
Yes. It’s happening for a reason. We’re all getting fat!
BUY WHITTAKERS!!!
Sleazy business. I found another brand to enjoy and no longer buy Cadbury.
fucking scam artists, fuck urselfs cadbury.
and the reactions needed more rehearsals
this is stupid- lets say cadbury started with a 200g pack rather than 250g and sold it for $3.50 like usual, would anyone be angry? no.
cadbury is a business, wat does a business do? it makes money. thats all its meant for. but instead, their are ppl like this guy who say he wants them to give an extra 50g of chocolate because its all about people being happy rather than a company doing what it was created to do. to say that cadbury u deserve 50g back, ur just as selfish as you think cadbury r
